Study on the efficacy of amorphous calcium carbonate as a consolidant for calcareous matrix

Abstract The popular involvement of amorphous calcium carbonate (ACC) in organisms, usually via a complicated non-classical crystallization pathway, has aroused interest the scientific community. In recent years, lot work been carried out for preparation and application ACC. this paper, effectiveness ACC consolidation calcareous matrix was evaluated. synthesized through direct carbonation oxide ethanol introduced into simulated samples as consolidant. A comprehensive study assessment protective effect by testing surface strength, chromaticity, compressive water vapor permeability, absorption freezing–thawing resistance. results showed that addition could significantly improve strength weatherability treated samples, while it had only slight influence on color difference permeability. It confirmed connect loose calcite particles ‘spot welding’ heterogeneous nucleation growth processes. As consolidant, demonstrated its merits be proposed an alternative protection weathered stones.
